‘Worry, does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength.’
Quote by Corrie Ten Boom
A while back I was with a regular client. This client, I’ll call her, Ann, and I were real close, I spent more time at Ann’s house then my own. For the past four months I had watched Ann slowly decline. Ann had been hit by a one-two punch; heart failure and Alzheimers were taking this incredible woman down.
The hardest part for Ann was needing help and losing control. Her memory was slipping and when she worried it got worse. Because Ann was no longer able to remember details she was always worried.
On this particular day Ann had a doctor’s appointment the next day. She would ask over and over about the details and forget almost as soon as I told her. Then ask again.
Ann was so worried, worried not everything would be taken care of, that something would go wrong. Worried about forgetting and fretting that she couldn’t remember. Forgetting quickly because the worry was making things worse.
So she would ask again. Trying to get ever detail. After hours of patient answering I grew mildly irritated. Actually I was frustrated and a little hurts.
“Ann, I’m here I got it, why can’t you trust me to take care of it? Have I ever failed you before? Don’t I always take care of details? Can’t you just trust me and just relax?” I questioned Ann.
Almost as soon as the words were out if my mouth I heard God talking to my heart “You’re just a mortal, you do mess up. I tell you don’t worry, I’ve got this and you panic over details. I tell you do not be afraid, yet you lay awake at night stressing over ‘what if’. I, Lord of Lords, the Alpha and Omega, say fear not, but still you live in fear of what might go wrong. Why don’t you trust me, my child? Have I ever let you down?”
It’s was s ok true. God was so right. I only had to deal with one woman repeatedly questioning my ability to care for her 32hrs a week. God had millions apon millions questioning His perfect plan and His ability to take care of things 24/7/356.
No God had never let me down. When I did trust in Him thing ran so much smoother. I had no right to be irritated with Ann and I needed t ok trust God, worry less.
Sometimes I fail but I try to remember that worry is not productive and throughout the Bible God tells us “Don’t worry, just leave it to me, Ive got this!” and God’s got this!
God is in control. I don’t need to worry about details, I needed to trust God with the details. God’s got this, God’s got me and I’ve got God. Since that night, life has been easier, less stressful… It’s easy to fall into old patterns, I just have to remember God’s got this because He does.
Below are a few times God says “I’ve got this!”
Psalm 118:6 ASV
Jehovah is on my side; I will not fear: What can man do unto me?
Genesis 46:3 ASV
And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation:
Joshua 10:25 ASV
And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed; be strong and of good courage: for thus shall Jehovah do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.
Numbers 21:34 ASV
Deuteronomy 3:2 ASV
And Jehovah said unto me, Fear him not; for I have delivered him, and all his people, and his land, into thy hand; and thou shalt do unto him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon.
1 Samuel 12:20 ASV
And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not; ye have indeed done all this evil; yet turn not aside from following Jehovah, but serve Jehovah with all your heart:
1 Chronicles 22:13 ASV
Then shalt thou prosper, if thou observe to do the statutes and the ordinances which Jehovah charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; fear not, neither be dismayed.
Joel 2:21-22 ASV
Fear not, O land, be glad and rejoice; for Jehovah hath done great things. Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field; for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth its fruit, the fig-tree and the vine do yield their strength.
Psalm 46:2 ASV
 Therefore will we not fear, though the earth do change, And though the mountains be shaken into the heart of the seas;
Hebrews 13:6 ASV
So that with good courage we say, The Lord is my helper; I will not fear: What shall man do unto me?
Matthew 6:25-34 ASV
Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment? Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value then they? And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto the measure of his life? And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? For after all these things do the Gentiles seek; for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Luke 12:22-32 ASV
And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. For the life is more than the food, and the body than the raiment. Consider the ravens, that they sow not, neither reap; which have no store-chamber nor barn; and God feedeth them: of how much more value are ye than the birds! And which of you by being anxious can add a cubit unto the measure of his life? If then ye are not able to do even that which is least, why are ye anxious concerning the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin; yet I say unto you, Even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God doth so clothe the grass in the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven; how much more shall he clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek not ye what ye shall eat, and what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: but your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. Yet seek ye his kingdom, and these things shall be added unto you. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
