Dear John Pavlovitz,
I’m confused, you claim you are about love and acceptance but there is such hate and venom in your post. Yes, you say nice things about those that agree with you but tear part anyone who disagrees. You state that all Christians are bad, except those that reject the fundamental belief of Christianity. You say everyone’s opinion matters but when I say a girl needs to be raised to love her mind and heart, and think of her body as a precious gift you delete my words, is my opinion not valid because it disagrees with yours?
I feel when people unify together with hate, even if it is justified then it only makes more hate and pain. Is it possible for you to build up what you believe in without tearing others apart? Is it possible to share your message building up what you believe in, without giving your readers a focus for hate?
I can imagine how that life must be difficult for you, you sound like you are in so much pain. To me you sound like a lost and hurting man, searching for something. Not saying everything you say is wrong, you make some real good points but there is such anger towards anyone who disagrees with you, shouldn’t you accept them too, because you claim to live and accept all.
As far as I can see you don’t take the time to understand every angle. I mean nothing is completely black and white. Even the most pious Christian Leader has their reasons. God loves even the most agregious sinner. There are many sides, all with merit to every side of every issue. Before I make a decision, I research both sides of the argument and confer with God. I try to approach with love, even for the opposing view. Just because I don’t agree doesn’t mean I can’t be empathetic.
As far as the president, my suggestion would be pray. If you truly don’t like his ways pray; speak up for what you would rather but spewing hate filled blogs about your opinions doesn’t help the president and doesn’t honor God. Hate just creates hate not answers, could you write a blog about the perfect president or chose a choice he made and without bashing describe how you would do better. God said to respect governing authorities, that doesn’t mean agree with, just respect.
John, you are a powerful writer and God has given you amazing skills. You have are in an amazing position, you have the power to ignite hate or love in people. I have found love is more powerful than hate.
2 Peter 2:10 NASB
and especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority. Daring, self-willed, they do not tremble when they revile angelic majesties,
1 Peter 2:13-25 NASB
Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men. Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God. Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king. Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are unreasonable. For this finds favor, if for the sake of conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly. For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God. For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, WHO committed NO SIN, NOR WAS ANY DECEIT FOUND IN HIS MOUTH; and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.
2 Timothy 1:6-8 NASB
For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God,
Ephesians 6:10-17 NASB
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, having GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING put ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Romans 13:1-7 NASB
Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil. Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also for conscience’ sake. For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing. Render to all what is due them: tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.
